Slate — Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 4, 2026

Slate collects no data. None.

  • No account. There is no sign-up or login.
  • No analytics, no tracking, no advertising, no third-party data collection of any kind.
  • Your voice is recorded on your phone and stays there. Audio never leaves the device, ever.
  • Transcription happens on your phone, using Apple’s on-device speech frameworks. Reflections and the weekly review are written on your phone by Apple’s on-device models. Nothing is sent to a server, because there is no server. Turn on airplane mode and everything still works.
  • iCloud backup is optional and off by default. If you turn it on, transcripts and reflections back up to your own private iCloud account (Apple’s CloudKit), encrypted by Apple. We never see, receive, or have access to that data. Audio is never included.
  • Reminders are local notifications scheduled on your device.
  • The microphone is used only while you are recording an entry, and only to record it.
  • We do not sell, share, or transmit any personal information, because we never collect any.
